Free textbook to visually impaired students: CM

GUWAHATI, Nov 14: The Government of Assam is going to provide free textbooks to visually-impaired students in the State. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal announced this while releasing a Guidebook for Visually Impaired students for competitive examitions in a programme held at Jata Bhawan on Tuesday.

Titled as ‘An Approach to Competitive Examitions in Braille’, the guidebook is prepared by the State-level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam.

Reiterating State Government’s commitment for empowering the differently-abled population, Sonowal urged all sections of society to put up joint efforts in this regard. Saying that the differently-abled people always maintain a positive outlook in their life, the Chief Minister mentioned that the government has taken up various programmes aiming at uplifting the lives of 4.4 lakh dibyangs of the state. Highlighting the examples of renowned litterateur Milton and Indian music director Ravindra Jain who overcame physical disabilities to acclaim success in life, Sonowal referred to Prime Minister rendra Modi’s commitment towards strengthening this weaker section of society.

Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, MLA Ashok Singhal, Member Secretary of SLAC Lakshya Konwar and several other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
