GUWAHATI, June 14: The All Assam Goriya-Moriya Yuva-Chatra Parishad (AAGMYCP) demanded of the government to implement the Central Wakf Amendment Act, 2013 so as to free Wakf land in the State from encroachment. They took out a procession from Ambari Burha Masjid to Dighalipukhuripar in the city today in support of their demand.
In a statement issued to the press today, Parishad general secretary Moinul Haque said: “The Wakh Board has 20,000 bighas of land in the State. However, a section Congress leaders and their honchos and outside businessmen, in collaboration with mafia, occupied Wakh Board land, robbing it of crores of revenue every year. In such a situation, the presence of the Board serves no purpose. We, therefore, demand of the present dispensation at Dispur to free the Wakf Board lands from encroachers so as to keep its election assurance. Failing which, we’re going to stage a democratic movement.”
