Garbage: Epicentre of all problems!

GUWAHATI, March 10: For Guwahatians ‘problem thy me is garbage’. Garbage creates problem for them when left without disposing, and when they are taken out of choked drains in the city and left on roadsides they make people hold their noses. This is not all. The denizens of the city and GMC officials are on a blame game over the bad smell that wafts out of garbage.

Of late the GMC has started cleaning the city drains with the monsoon being round the corner. However, in areas like RG Baruah Road, B Barooah Road, different lanes having connection to the GS Road heaps of garbage is in roadsides. The garbage stinks and makes people suffer. Moreover, garbage kept in roadsides does not let people park their vehicles. People of various localities blame it on the GMC and contractors it has outsourced the work for cleaning city drains. They say that the contractors should not keep garbage on roadsides. They should take the garbage away instantly for proper disposal. 

The contractors and GMC officials also have their say on this episode. They blame it on people using cars in the city for their rampant parking of their vehicles on roadsides. They make it clear that they cannot take away garbage in many areas, as often as not, as vehicles are kept parked on roadsides.

The local people in some areas want to make it crystal clear that drains should be cleaned at night only and the garbage that comes out should be taken away when it is dark so as to prevent diseases from spreading.
