Geo-fencing device for teachers' attendance

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 12: Teachers in the State are in for a stricter vigil soon. Attendance of teachers in schools in the State is going to be maintained and monitored through the geo-fencing system.

Making this announcement on Wednesday, State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “The Centre has asked all States to start the system as pilot projects in two districts each first. However, we’re going to start it in all the 32 districts in the State. We’re going to call tenders to this effect with a day or two.”

According to the minister, the system does not need any internet. “There’ll be a device connected to tabloids in schools and to the mobile phones of teachers. The device will work only in certain range, not beyond that. At the end of every month, officials from education block offices will collect the data. Salaries will be paid to the teachers based on that data.”
