GUWAHATI, July 7: Kamrup(M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu, who is the Chairman of the district Disaster Magement Authority, has asked the GMC CEO and the APDCL to conduct a joint inspection of electric connections of all streetlights standing in the medians of the main roads in and around Guwahati and take necessary measures to mitigate the threat of electrocution. In order came in view of several incidents of electrocution, leading to loss of lives and property in the metropolitan city when there was heavy rains leading to artificial floods. "The incidents occurred because of improper maintence of the electrical wires and poles," the DC said, and added: "It's also been observed that electric connection in many hoardings erected in the medians of main roads in and around the city like AT Road, GS Road, RG Baruah Road etc., are not properly maintained. They, when come in contact with water during artificial floods-waterlogging, can cause severe incidents like electrocution, leading loss of lives."

The GMC Commissioner has also been directed not to allow installation of any hoardings in the medians of main roads and take necessary measures to remove the existing electronic hoardings of Guwahati. The Commissioner has also been asked to submit the action taken report to the Chief Minister.
