GMC runs short of Malathion

GUWAHATI, Oct 21: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is running short of Malathion, a synthetic organophosphorus compound which is used as an insecticide, hampering fogging at a time when dengue is taking its toll in the State.

According to sources in the civic body, it is left with no stock of Malathion, and as such it is not fogging to control the mosquito causing dengue in the metropolitan city. Fogging in the State is done by the State Health Department, when there is occurrence of any new dengue case, and GMC and other civic bodies.

Till today the number of dengue affected people in the city in this season is 2,648 against 2,911 in the State. Two patients died of dengue in the city.

Sources in the State Health Department said that the department has ordered 1,500 litres of Malathion, and the consignment is set to arrive in the State within a day or two.

A litre of Malathion is blended with 20 litres of diesel and spayed in affected areas.
