GMCH facing 'clinical negligence' charge!

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 8: The family members of an infant, who died in the GMCH on Sunday, have brought a serious charge of ‘clinical negligence’ against the hospital. The relatives of the infant say that the newborn died due to ‘wrong treatment’.

Binita Saharia gave birth to a baby in the hospital on October 5. The infant had to be admitted to the ICU on Saturday night as its health deteriorated. The baby died on Sunday. However, a member of the Saharia family noticed that me of mother of the infant ‘Binita Saharia’ has been written over another me ‘Alaka Bordoloi’ after striking off the latter me. This has planted a doubt among the family members of the deceased infant that their baby died due to wrong treatment. They are of the view that their baby received the very treatment meant for another baby whose mother is Alaka Bordoloi. The Saharias, after some inquiry, came to know that a baby with cleft lips was born to Alaka Bordoloi at Khetri on Saturday, and the case was referred to the GMCH under the scheme – Smile. This discovery led the Saharias to firmly believe that their baby had died after receiving treatment meant for another baby.

The Saharias soon lodged a complaint with the hospital authority who made no delay to send the complaint to Bhangagarh police station. Based on the statement given by Brojen Saharia, the father of the deceased infant, Bhangagarh police registered a case (195/17).

GMCH superintendent Ramen Talukdar said: “The baby of Alaka Bordoloi with cleft lips was not applied any medicines.”

Now the police can reveal the truth. Can it?
