Goddess leaves no 'mother' untouched!

GUWAHATI, Sept 26: The 49 ageing women inmates and five males of Mother Old Age Home located at Bamunimaidam, Guwahati are also worshipping Goddess Durga. Attired in their new clothes, they are busy to perform the puja in meticulous detail. Over hundred-year-old Mai Handique and Subhadra Devi are also enthusiasts to perform the puja defying their age respective ages. Handique hails from Golaghat, and she was rescued from the street by some local people after she had been driven out by her family members. The warden of the Home, Utpal Kumar Harshavardan, said: “Every year I do take the mothers of this Home to visit Durga Puja in the city by hiring vehicles. They will be taken to the puja mandap at Latasil, Noonmati, Geeta Mandir and Silpukhuri in two days. Twenty of the inmates have no kin and kith. We celebrate the Durga Puja with the mothers of this Home every year. There are feast and jalpan in the morning.”
