GUWAHATI, February 24: Noted businessman and film distributor Shankarlal Goenka today said that the parking problem in the Fancy Bazar area could be solved once and for all if the State Government really wanted so.
Talking to this reporter, Goenka said: “The government has got a big plot near the old jail. If a multi-storeyed building is erected there in a planned way over 3,000 vehicles can be parked there. Besides this, the complex can provide shopping complex, multiplex, hanging garden etc. The building can be surrounded with vendors’ shops inside the complex so as to make the roadside vendors in Fancy Bazar vacate the very places they are occupying now. This will let all roads in the Fancy Bazar area fast-moving ones, besides making the market complex a commercial tourist hub.”
Goenka further said: “The wholesale market at Gallapatty should be shifted to elsewhere in the city. The new wholesale market to be set up as well as the proposed shopping complex will add to the revenue collection of the government.”
He said that the government might consult foreign or domestic architects while making the plan for the complex.
