Gogoi depriving SCs, STs: CCTOA

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, February 10: The Coordition Committee of Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) has accused the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the state of depriving STs and SCs of the state of their legitimate opportunities, be it in appoint or promotion.

Addressing the press in the city today, CCTOA president Aditya Khakhlary said: “All along, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has taken a stand against the SCs and STs of the state. In all departments of the state, SC and ST employees are being deprived of their due promotions. If the government continues to deprive the SCs and STs, in the forthcoming Assembly elections, we will have to take an anti-Congress stand.”

Meanwhile, the All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), Tribal Youth League, Karbi Jajati Chatra Santha, Sadou Asom Jajati Karmachari Santha, TMPK and the Mech Kachari Jatiya Parishad have announced their revolt against the Congress. They said that in the coming Assembly elections in the state they would be out to ensure the defeat of the Congress. Khakhlary further said that the WPT and BC had only a minister of state without any Cabinet minister to look into  the important department. “This shows the degree of importance that the Chief Minister accords on the welfare of Tribals of the state,” he said, and added: “We have been seeking an appointment with the Chief Minister for a long time, but he keeps on ignoring us.”

“The CCTOA will wear black badges on February 16 and stage mass dhar on February 23 in Guwahati in protest against the neglect being meted out to the tribals in Assam,” Khakhlary said.
