Gogoi flags off bicycle rally

GUWAHATI, Jan 17: “The best way to maintain a good health, beat traffic srls, prevent accidents and minimize pollution is pedaling a bicycle,” said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi while flagging off the mega bicycle rally  - Cycle for Health - organized by Assam Talks, in association with Gang by SK Bikes, at Latasil playground in Guwahati today.

Flagging off the rally around 8.25 am,  Gogoi said at a time when the State in particular and the world at large is confronted with tural disasters, pollution and climate change, the best way to arrest the disturbing trend is taking to cycling in a big way.

Reminiscing his heydays, Chief Minister Gogoi said, “Cycle was an indispensable part of my life. I used to pedal 8 to 10 miles on my way to school and later to college. I also started my political life on a cycle campaigning from house to house when I contested the municipal elections. I saw my father going out on a cycle treating patients.”

The Chief Minister said that he was happy to see the turnout of young boys and girls for the event.

About 250 participants took part in the rally which traversed from Latasil to Bhangagarh via Dighalipukhuri, Guwahati Club, Nehru Stadium and Ulubari. Besides Guwahati, the cycle rally is being organized in gaon, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Bongaigaon.
