Gogoi honours educationist Dipali Chaliha

GUWAHATI, August 16: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi honoured noted educationist Dipali Chaliha for her significant contribution in educatiol, literary, cultural and social life, on August 15 ceremony at Khapara in Guwahati.

Dipali Chaliha led from the front in establishing Sibsagar Commerce College, and as its Principal she worked hard till her retirement to make the premier educatiol institution in Upper Assam what it is today. Her contribution the fight for gender equality and women’s emancipation in the backward areas and her significant role in promoting music and cultural life in Sivasagar as the president of Sibsagar tya Samaj, besides her pioneering role as a women panelist in All India Radio, Dibrugarh, also received fulsome praise from the  government.

It may be noted that Chaliha was one of the leading intellectuals selected for the peace talks with the ULFA  last year . The 77-year-old lady is the widow of noted educationist, litterateur and politician Late Paragdhar Chaliha.
