Gogoi opens Bhogali Utsav

GUWAHATI, January 18: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today iugurated Bogali Festival at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Bihu is the lifeline of Assamese culture and it has always fostered peace and brotherhood amongst all sections of society irrespective of caste and class, besides alleviating the issue of insurgency in the state.” He also stated that Bihu can be celebrated in not just villages but also in cities. At the same time, the event represents the concept of ‘mini Assam’ as conceived at zirakhat, Sopur, alongside the Tribal Museum, where Assam will be showcasing its communities’ ethnic cultural diversity. The two–day–long festival from January 18 to 19 has been organized by Assam Tourism Department. Showcasing lifestyle and traditions of various communities, the event has altogether 29 stalls comprising of ethnic delicacies and crafts and handloom besides various traditiol sports like cock–fight, tug–of–war, etc.

Also present in the event were Parliamentary Secretary Rekibuddin Ahmed, Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla and Commissioner and Secretary Tourism Ashutosh Agnihotri.
