Gogoi pays tribute to Ambedkar on 'Constitution Day'

GUWAHATI, Nov 26: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today paid rich tribute to Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambdekar to observe November 26 as ‘Constitution Day’, the day when the Constitution was adopted at a function held in New Delhi.

In a statement, Gogoi on Thursday said, “This is one of the few days when we pay our highest regards to one of the great sons of the country who played a semil role in framing Indian Constitution as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly.” He also said Dr Ambedkar along with Dr Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru and others played significantly in drafting the Constitution of India.

Gogoi moreover said, “The Constitution of India is one of the best among the Committee of tions which provides civic, political and economic equality besides social justice and harmony and expression faith and belief.”

Chief Minister Gogoi said that Ambedkar was a great fighter who fought against exploitation, injustice and oppression. He also said that this was the day when the Constitution was adopted thereby laying the edifice of  one and united India. However, even today some divisive forces are at work which are spreading their tentacles and creating an atmosphere of ‘intolerance’ and ‘hatred’, Gogoi added in the statement.
