Gogoi raised poll funds from Fancy Bazar: Bijaya

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 7: Hitting out at Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s allegation earlier in the day that the BJP raising funds from traders before the Assembly election in Assam partly led to hike in prices of essential commodities, BJP’s Guwahati MP Bijaya Chakraborty today said that Gogoi has been dictating Fancy Bazar with a remote control device, and this is the reason behind hike in prices of all essential commodities in the State.
Talking to newsmen in the city today, the BJP MP said: “The condition of the BJP is not that pathetic that it would have to raise funds from the market. Moreover, the merchants don’t pay funds to the BJP. The Congress, on the other hand, is in power in Assam. This apart, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has the habit of arm-twisting merchants so as to raise funds from them. Whenever the flow of funds stops, he asks the administration to go ahead with eviction drives in the Fancy Bazar area. He knows how to squeeze out funds from merchants. In the recently-held Assembly election in the State Gogoi raised huge amounts of funds from the Fancy Bazar area in the city, and as such he looks the other way now when the merchants have been sucking the consumers dry.”
