Gogoi spits fire on Dispur

GUWAHATI, Feb 18: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi seems to be a tecious critic for the BJP-led dispensation at Dispur. The former Chief Minister finds faults in every activity of the government.

Talking to newsmen at Koidhora in the city today, Gogoi said that the present dispensation at Dispur is being led at the diktat of the RSS. Gogoi has seen something wrong in the recent Assam Conference on Sanitation, 2017 held at Veteriry Filed at Khapara in the city. What keeps pricking Gogoi’s conscience is – what led Dispur to call a number of sants to the programme, reportedly keeping them five-star hotels. “Can’t the santas and xatradhikars of Assam serve the purpose?” Gogoi said, and added: “What such sants have to do in a sanitation fair? What’s the reason behind keeping them in five-star hotels? The BJP government in the State is doing all such activities at the diktat of the RSS.”

Gogoi further said that Dispur totally failed to stop corruption in the State. “Before coming to power, the BJP did promise to stop corruption and dismantle all syndicates in the State. However, a number of syndicates are still there in the State,” Gogoi said, and added: “There’re syndicates in sand, excise and coal. There is a mismatch between what the government says and does.”

On corruption, Gogoi said: “GMDA has lost the important file of the Luis Berger scam. This government has failed to meet the assurances given in the run-up to the Assembly elections in the State. They talked of putting an end to the killing of rhinos, but rhino killing is still going on in the State. Earlier, the BJP blamed the Congress in the event of killing of every rhino in the State. Who will they blame it on now?”

On the law-and-order front, Gogoi said: “The situation has come to such a pass now that even judges have no security in courts. A judge has been physically assaulted by some lawyers in the State. In a state where lack of security haunts judges, how come the common people expect their security?”

On employment front, Gogoi said: “The BJP government was vocal on providing job avenues to unemployed in the State. Let Dispur make public as to how many youths have been given job avenues by it in the past eight months.”

Gogoi also came down heavily on the holding of talks on Assam Accord in a hotel in the city recently. He said that the building of the Cancer Hospital opened at GMCH yesterday had been constructed during the Congress tenure.

Gogoi said he cannot be a mute spectator just for being a former chief minister. He claims that whatever the State Government is doing is because of his watchful eyes.

On Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gogoi said: “We’ve better persol ties between us. However, we still have ideological differences.”
