Gold bank likely in State

GUWAHATI, May 31: In order to eble Assam’s traditiol gold jewellers to make bids for the pelts in tiol and intertiol markets, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the government is going to take some tangible steps.

The Chief Minister gave this assurance to a team of the Assam Swar Shilpi Samity (ASSS) that met him last night. “In order to help the traditiol Assamese jewllers, we’re going to set up a gold bank,” Gogoi said, and asked the jewllers to improve and develop Assamese traditiol jewellery designs so as to make them competitive in the market, keeping its uniqueness and tradition intact.

Gogoi said that the government has already sanctioned Rs 7.6 crore for facilities for traditiol gold jewllers of the State. “This apart, a Budget announceent has been made for aid of Rs 5,000 to each of the state jewllers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the jewllers thanked the Chief Minister for the reduction in VAT for jewellery products from five per cent to one per cent.
