Golden jubilee of St. Mary’s Senior School opened

GUWAHATI, Dec 17: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit iugurated the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of St. Mary’s Senior Secondary School, Maligaon at a function held on school premises in the city on Friday evening.

Set up way back in 1966, the school has trodden 50 long years to come to the present status with the strength of 1,570 students.

Speaking on the occasion, Purohit said that education is the edifice on which the society hinges as he hailed the role of St. Mary’s Senior Secondary School in taking up the responsibility in spreading education and leading the society to march forward. He also called upon the school authority to emphasize building the sound character of the students and hone their intellectual skills so that they can contribute to the growth of the tion.

Purohit further called upon the students to lead a simple yet disciplined life with highest mission and vision to achieve noble objective in life. He also asked the students to emulate the lives and works of Mahatma Gandhi and Ernest Hemingway and make them their role models. He also urged the students to inculcate the values of discipline, dedication, determition, cleanliness etc., to become ideal citizens.

Synchronizing with the occasion, a colourful cultural programme was also staged showcasing the rich and diversified culture of the State.

Vice-Chancellor of Cotton College State University, Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Saikia, Principal of St.Mary’s Senior Secondary School, Maligaon Sr. Nelia Mary, NF Railway General Mager Chahatey Ram along with a host of other dignitaries were present at the programme.
