Gopasthami Mela begins

GUWAHATI, Nov 6: The three-day Gopashtami Mela began in Guwahati today. Guwahati Gaushala at Athgaon in the city, which is celebrating of centery year, has organized the mela. The mela was iugurated by Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal. He also prayed at the mela and fed cows grass.

Sonowal said: “The call of the hour is that the youth should come forward for rearing animals and their preservation.” He thanked Gaushala and hoped cooperation from all Hindus to the mela.  

The thousands of visitors in the mela feed cows grass as they believe that feeding cows grass is one of the virtues. Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren th, who went to the mela to inspect the security measures there, also feed cows grass.   Local craftsmen from various corners of the State thronged the mela with dolls, idols of gods and goddesses, raised platforms of wood and bamboo for use as seats of gods and goddesses, brass metal utensils etc., are on display for sale there.
