Government land encroached upon in Sopur

GUWAHATI, Sept 2: Government lands are being encroached upon under Sopur Revenue Circle under the very nose of Kamrup (M) district administration that has, so far, been maintaining the role of a mute spectator.

According to information sent to the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner on December 26, 2014 by the Sopur Revenue Circle officer, 11 bighas of land (under Daag No. 7) in Tamulikuchi village under Sopur Mouza were encroached upon by Bhogeswar Pegu, Lalit Das, Runjuni Borgohain, Mithun Daimary, Tamulkuchi Mahila Sangha, Madhab Sarma, Diganta Das, Manoranjan Saikia, Nilkamal Kirtania, Raman Das, Singthuraj Kro, binson Kro, Khargeswar Das, Krish Loyar, Prassan Bora, Pratap Das, reswar Das, Ramdhan Deka and Pabon Phangshu. Karbi Yuva Sangha also encroached upon land in the area ( under daag No. 32).  

There are also allegations that over 70 bighas of land of the Goat Research Centre of Assam Agricultural University under Sopur Revenue Circle have been encroached upon by some people. Some people of the Goat Research Centre are allegedly  involved in the encroachment of land.
