Governor visits Central Jail

Guwahati, March 20: Assam Governor PB Acharya visited the Central Jail, Guwahati on Thursday. During his visit, he met the jail officials and the inmates and interacted with them. The Governor expressed his concern over the conditions of the inmates and directed the officials to improve the same. Saying that justice delayed is justice denied, the Governor instructed the officials to initiate steps in consultation with the government and the judiciary to expedite the disposal of the cases of the under-trials and to ensure the possibility of the release of the prisoners bearing record of good conduct. He also asked the officials to send the documents related to such matters to him so that he could take up measures with the concerned authorities from his end also, a press release said.
