GP presidents, others not getting remunerations for 19-44 months

GUWAHATI, Sept 12: Panchayat presidents and members in Assam have not been getting their remuneration for 19-44 months. Will they get their arrears remuneration before the panchayat poll slated for 2018? Nothing can be said with certainty in Assam.

All these information came to the fore on the floor of the Assam Assembly on Tuesday when P&RD Minister ba Kumar Doley replied to a question from AGP MLA Utpal Dutta.

Assam has as many as 2,200 GP presidents each getting Rs 5,000  per month as remuneration, 22,000 GP members each getting 1,500 per month as remuneration, 2200 AP members each getting Rs 2500 per month as remuneration, 21 ZPC presidents each getting Rs 10,000 per month as remuneration and 420 ZPC members each getting Rs 3,500 per month as remuneration. This apart, each of the ZPC vice presidents gets Rs 7,500 per month as remuneration and AP vice president gets Rs 5,000 per month as remuneration. Doley further said that Bongaigaon ZPC had the highest pending remuneration of 44 months. While Jorhat, Sivasagar, gaon, Goalpara, Dhemaji and Sonitpur ZPCs had pending remuneration of 24 months each; Kamrup and Hailakandi ZPCs had pending remunerations of 41 months each; Dhubri ZPC had pending remuneration of 43 month; Golaghat, Barpeta, Morigaon and Cachar ZPCs had pending remuneration of 36 months each; Tinsukia and Kamrup(M) ZPCs had pending remunerations of 35 months each; Darrang ZPC had 42 months remuneration pending; Dibrugarh ZPC had 28 months and Karimganj ZPC had pending remuneration of 19 months. The information is not available for lbari ZPC. The minister said that efforts were on to pay the arrears remuneration of panchayat presidents and members.
