Green Action Week observed

GUWAHATI, Oct 26: Assam Agriculture University former professor Dr lin Mohan said that 50% supplied drinking water of Guwahati is polluted. 

Speaking at the Green Action Week-India State Level Stakeholders’ Consultation at Guwahati here on Thursday, Mohan said, “50% supplied drinking water of Guwahati is polluted. More than 38 lakhs people infected and 4-5 lakhs people died due to use of polluted drinking water in our country. Ganga and Yamu is the two most polluted rivers in the world. And we regularly drink water from these rivers. How long we are safe in using supplied drinking water which is directly taken from river Brahmaputra,”

In his iugural speech renowned agro scientist Dr. Mohan told that effect of DDT can be seen after 30 years of its use Green Action Week is a global campaign to promote sustaible consumptions, 55 organizations in 29 countries are part of this joint action.

Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum, Assam (CLPF) is observing Green Action Week Campaign 2017, in partnership with CUTS Intertiol and Swedish Society for ture Conservation.

The theme of this years’ campaign is “Safer, more Sustaible Food for All”.

In his introductory speech, Advocate Ajoy Hazarika, secretary CLPF said, “It is found that excessive use of chemicals in agriculture has put forth a question mark on the sustaibility of agriculture, calling for sustaible production and consumption pattern. Organic farming, an option for sustaibility, is practiced with an objective to produce healthy and quality foods without using synthetic chemical products.”
