Guwahati book fair concludes

GUWAHATI, Jan 5: The 29th Guwahati Book Fair, which was started on December 25, concluded today with the concluding meeting presided over by State Education Minister Sarat Barkataky. As many as 14 books were released in the book fair.

Barkataky said in the concluding meeting: “I have been working hard and discussing with the Chief Minister to develop the condition of Assam Prakashan Parishad (APP) and regain its earlier status. I have instructed the Directorate of Audit to complete the audit of last 10 years and submit it within January 10. The APP book stall of the book fair has collected Rs 5.88 lakh from book selling, and we have collected Rs 2.25 lakh from the entry tickets. According to APP, the book fair collected Rs 2.50 crore from selling of books. I will form an interl committee to complete the audit of the book fair and submit the report within a week.”

The programme was also attended by research scholar Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya, APP 2015 awardee bin Chandra Sarma, writer Gobinda Prasad Sarma, Chief Secretary to the Education Department Paban Barthakur, Mission Director of Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Thaneswar Malakar and others.
