Guwahati Book Fair underway

GUWAHATI, Dec 30: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal iugurated the 30th Guwahati Book Fair at Chandmari in the city today. As many as 106 publishers from across the country have participated in the book fair spanning 12 days.

Sonowal said: “Book is mentor for us and it leads us to go forward. We read different genre of books for enriching our knowledge. Books forge brotherhood, peace and harmony.”

Emphasizing that Assam is abundantly rich and the possibility, potentiality and prosperity are aplenty, Sonowal urged the writers to produce books highlighting the beauty and affluence of Assam so that the readers outside the State have fair ideas about the richness of the State. He also said that Assam has the potential of being a determint for success of the Act East Policy and said that given the right kind of fillip Assam and the Northeast can stimulate the growth of the country.

Sonowal also advocated for decentralizing Book Fairs organized by the Publication Board and favoured the  holding of book fairs even at panchayat levels.

Sonowal presented the Life Time Achievement Award to noted writer Dinesh Chandra Goswami. The award comprises a citation, a seleng chador, a memento, a bunch of books and Rs. 2 lakh.

A book – Pratyahbanor Rajniti – by Meera Borthakur Goswami was released by senior jourlist Ajit Bhuyan. It has been published by Nirva Sutra.
