GUWAHATI, March 15: The first edition of Guwahati Food Awards announced the winners at a gala event held on Saturday at a hotel in Guwahati. It was an initiative aimed at recognizing the best in the city’s food and beverage landscape comprising restaurants, cafes, lounge bars, bakeries, catering providers and fast food eateries, amongst others.
The ceremony included renowned food critic and author of Times Food Guide, Suresh Hinduja and veteran of hospitality industry, Sanjeev Pahwa, senior vice president – Asia for Carlson Rezidor Hotels that owns Radisson brand as special guests.
The awards were arrived at by multiple phase process that involves nomition filing, voting, food tasting and jury visits. Almost 20,000 people voted for their favourite restaurants through SMS, websites and surveys. The jury of Guwahati Food Awards, Sanjukta Dutta, Kashmiri Barkakati th, Koushik Hazarika, Pallavi Barua and culiry historian and food critic Dr. Ashish Chopra as its chairman, deliberated long and hard over selecting winners.
Organiser of the Guwahati Food Awards, Sunit Jain, Publisher & Director of G Plus said, “It was a fantastic celebration of the success of the best in the city’s food industry and G Plus is proud to initiate such an event. This initiative aims at rewarding the best and thereby setting benchmarks.”
The 22 award winners were identified from a total of 150 nomitions from 62 restaurants and eateries. Barbeque tion fought off strong competition to win the ‘Restaurant of the Year’ award, while Kiranshree Sweets, picked up the award for the ‘Best Mithai Shop’. The award for ‘Best Restaurant for Assamese Cuisine’ went to Paradise. Momo Ghar won the jury’s special ‘Popular Choice Award’.
While the award for the Best Bakery (Chain) went to Loyans, the award for the Best Bakery (single outlet) went Patisserie Operaa, the award for the Best Cafeteria to the Corner Café, the Award for the Best Catering Service Provider to A2Z Catering, the Award for the Best Catering Service Provider (Vegetarian) to AB’s Flavours, the Award for the Best Fast Food Joint (Chain) to J14, the Award for the Award Best Fast Food Joint (Single Outlet) to Chick n Chilly, the Award for the Best Hang Out Place to 11th Avenue Café Bistro, the Award for the Best Lounge Bar to Terra Mayaa, the Award for the Best Multi Cuisine Restaurant to Ambrosia, the Award for the Best Restaurant for Ethnic Cuisine (Bengali) to Kasturi, the Award for the Best Restaurant for Ethnic Cuisine (ga) award to ga Kitchen, the Award for the Best Restaurant for Fine Dining to Mosaic, the Award for the Best Restaurant for Oriental Cuisine to Red Hot Chilli Pepper, the Award for the Best Restaurant (Vegetarian) to Gopal Maharaj, the Award for the Best Value for Money Restaurant to the Dhaba, the Award for Most Promising New Entrant to Dastarkhan (Luckhwi Food), Shahi Darbar (Vegetarian), XS (Lounge) and the Award for Setting Benchmark Through Innovation to Grill Republica, Repose.
