Guwahati to host world film festival from Oct 28

GUWAHATI, Oct 5: The first ever Guwahati Intertiol Film Festival to be held here from October 28 will witness screening of over 70 films from 35 countries.

The six-day festival will be organised in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regiol Government Film and Television Institute and the Assam State Film (Fince and Development) Corporation under the Cultural Affairs department.

The films will be screened at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Panjabari and at the Jyoti Chitraban studio in the city.

Addressing the press meet here on Thursday, State Cultural Affairs Minister ba Kumar Doley said, “This is for the first time in Northeast such a film festival is being organized and I’m happy to share that films from 35 countries will be screened in this festival.”

He said that every day 16 movies will be screened in three screens during the six day festival.

Doley said that Turkey will be the country in focus at the festival and five films from the country will be screened.

“Apart from that five cinemas each in Indian panorama and Cinema of Northeast will be screened.  While under Cinema of Assam section seven movies will be screened,” added the minister.

tiol Award-winning Indian film director Shaji N Karun will attend the opening ceremony of the festival as the guest of honour while eminent filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishn will attend in the concluding ceremony of the festival.   Besides the intertiol films, tiol and local films will also be screened and will take part in competitions during the festival, Pabitra Margherita, chairman of the film society, told the media here.
