Guwahatians sound war bugle against drugs!

GUWAHATI, May 10: Policing in Guwahati has been rotten to the core, and is spreading fast to other areas! In the core of the city there have been drug paddlers running their shady business under the very nose of the police over the years, and the mece thrived ubated even after repeated complaints from the conscious people of the city. Today the people of the city have sought the intervention of the State Governor to put an end to the problem.

With the mece coming to the fore, today hundreds of people thronged the Dighalipukhuri area from Uzan Bazar, Kharguli, Dighalipukhuri, Lamb Road and other areas and took out a procession – war against drugs – from Latasil playground to Dighalipukhuri, shouting slogans for awareness on drugs. At Dighalipukhuripar they held a public meeting where Faznur Ali, Fajar Ali, and other citizens spoke against the mece. The meeting said that if the police are willing they are ready to cooperate them so as to root out the mece.

Meanwhile, the Dighalipukhuri (East) Unyan Committee has sought the intervention of the State Governor in the drug mece in the city. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor today, the committee expressed its surprise as to how the drug paddling continued ubated in the area which is very close to Latasil police station, the Gauhati High Court and the office of the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner. They said that it has been proved beyond doubt that drug paddling had been thriving in the area for quite a long time. They sought intervention of the Governor to put an end to the mece.
