Halt eviction till examitions are over, AISF tells DC

Guwahati, Jan 19: The All India Students Federation (AISF)’s Kamrup (M) district committee has demanded the NF Railway authorities and Kamrup (M) district administration not to carry out eviction drive at Bamunimaidam Railway Colony of the city till HSLC and HSSLC examitions are over.

In a memorandum submitted to Kamrup (M) DC, AISF president Shaswati Borthakur and secretary Tarini Barman said that a large number students from the area will appear for higher secondary and HSLC examitions so at the interest of the future of the students, the eviction not to be carried out in the area.

The Northeast Frontier Railway is now gearing up to free its land from encroachers in the city.

The NF Railway and district administration have completed a joint survey and identified the encroachments on railway land.

The Kamrup (metropolitan) district authorities have agreed to provide police protection and appoint magistrates for carrying out the eviction drive smoothly. They also staged a protest in the city today.
