'Hand over inquiry of Phangshu killing to CBI'

DIMORIA, Jan 18: Over 200 members of as many as six organizations took out a silent procession from Samata to the Sopur Revenue Circle office today with the demand for handing over of the inquiry into to the killing of Barpathar police station officer-in-charge, Binod Phangshu. On the trail of a car lifter, Phangshu was killed by unidentified miscreants at a place under Barpathar police station in Golaghat district recently.  Six Amri Karbi organizations – Amri Karbi tiol Council (AKNC), Amri Karbi Students’ Union (AKSU), Amri Karbi Arlosa Asem (AKAA), Amri Karbi Bangthe Asem (AKBA), Amri Karbi Tsorm Aharsi Amel and Amri Karbi Ruksak Asem – took out the procession from Samata, where Phangshu was born, to the Sopur Revenue Circle office. Through the circle officer the six organizations submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, local MLA Akon Bora, State Chief Secretary VK Pipersania, the DGP and the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner demanding handing over of the killing of Phangshu to the CBI as the Assam police have failed to identify the killers.

AKSU president Hareswar Rahang said: “On the trail of a car lifter, Phangshu was killed in firing with AK-47 rifles. The case should be handed over to the CBI as the State police can’t solve it. If there’s no proper investigation into the case by February 12, we will rend Dimoria air with agitation. We want rehabilitation of the widow of Phasngshu with a government job. She also needs adequate compensation.”

Monika Bumrong, the widow of Binod Phangsu, said: “Uncertainty continues to haunt us as the police haven’t identified the killers as yet. We’re in dark on issues like rehabilitation and compensation.”
