Hand over lands to landless: LDA

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Jan 18: The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) has appealed to the government to conduct a scientific survey of the land in the State and hand over lands to the landless people of the State, including the ones who have been evicted in various parts of the State recently. It has also asked the government to immediately halt the eviction drive, and make provisions for rehabilitation before evicting anyone. Talking to newsmen in the city today, the LDA leaders said that the corporate sector should not be given lands by depriving the poor of their land rights. They demanded proper implementation of the Forest Land Rights, 2006, besides handing over the tea estatesĀ  encroached upon by TE owners to the landless tea tribes. On NRC update, the alliance said that the government should stick to the March 24, 1971 deadline and hasten the process of NRC update.
