HC must monitor inquiry: Gogoi

GUWAHATI, Sept 4: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi expressed his distrust on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Monday after the High Court’s (HC) decision to hand over the investigation of the Louis Berger case to the investigating agency. Gogoi further said that the HC must monitor the inquiry.
Addressing the media after attending the first day of the September session of the Assam Legislative Assembly along with Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia and other Congress MLAs, Gogoi said, “It wasn’t me who sought inquiry into the Louis Berger scam. It was Sarbanda Sonowal who demanded inquiry into the scandal. He also alleged that I was protecting Himanta Biswa Sarma for his alleged involvement in the scam. I only approved the Louis Berger project for its implementation, not for swindling of funds.”
Reacting to the High Court’s decision to hand over the inquiry to the CBI from the state CID, Gogoi said, “I have no confidence on CBI. So I demand that the High Court should closely monitor the inquiry.”
