Hiren Gohain gets Mahavir Lachit Award

Guwahati, Nov 24: Governor Banwarilal Purohit today conferred Mahavir Lachit Award-2016 on literary critic, poet and social scientist Dr Hiren Gohian at a function held at Srimanta Shankardeva Kalakshetra in the city. The award carries cash Rs. 50,000, a citation and a traditiol dao (sword).

Paying rich tributes to the warrior, Governor Purohit said, “Lachit Borphukan was an extraordiry army general and he is remembered by the posterity for his extraordiry victory over the Mughal in the battle of Saraighat. His extraordiry qualities like brilliant uses of the terrain, clever diplomatic negotiations with his rivals, psychological warfare and military intelligence are some of the virtues that we can emulate even today.”

Lachit Borphukan’s gallantry and his spectacular victory over the powerful Mughal will always remain etched as remarkable day in the history of the country.

Taking a bow to Indian culture which is more than 1000years old, Purohit attributed its unifying the cohesive character to the role of Veer Lachit Borphukan, Mahara Pratap and Chatrapati Shivaji who contributed immensely ‘towards our culture to integrate India’.

Purohit also said that the martyrs of the country who fought valiantly for the progress and prosperity of India left behind a rich legacy and the present generation should exhibit their love and respect for the tion so that all can work in tandem for the progress of the country.

He also underlined the need for making a corruption free country and advocated for utmost honesty in our demeanor.  

The function which was organised by Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad Assam has witnessed the presence of Tai language exponent Yahum Borgohain, former Home Commissioner BK Gohian along with a host of other dignitaries.
