Hot and humid weather continues to grip city

GUWAHATI, Oct 5: Like the most parts of the State, Guwahati city too continues to under the grip of warm and humid weather conditions. The weather over the city has remained mainly dry for last two days with a sudden rise in day temperatures.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials the mercury soared to 35.2 Celsius in the city on Thursday, which was several degrees above normal average.

According to IMD officials, rains likely to occur in the city on October 8 and 9.

With temperature soaring, street vendors who sell fruits the alongside, have made brisk business in the city.

Tender coconut, fruit juice, sugarcane juice, gan juice, nimbu juice, kulfi and ice-cream had a huge demand during the day.

“Our business starts by 10 a.m. and continues till 4 pm. During the last two days we are doing very good business,” said a street vendor, who sells sugarcane juice in the city.

He said that they expect good business in the next two-three days as well.  Another vendor said that till afternoon on Thursday, he has sold more than 90 glass of gan juice.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Sunita Gogoi, a city resident, said that the continued scorching heat has forced her to take coconut juice during the last two days.  

According to IMD officials an immediate respite from heat wave is unlikely to come. “Weather condition is likely to be changed in November only,” said an IMD official.
