How come authorities hide heads in the sand?

GUWAHATI, July 23: How come those at the helm of affairs hide their heads in the sand when loading and unloading of sand makes life hellish for people using Old AT Road, on the outskirts of Guwahati? Old AT Road is a lifeline for many living in areas like Majali, Garal, Mazirgaon, Palasbari and those who opt to use it to go to Lokapriya Gopith Bordoloi Intertiol (LGBI) Airport. People can go to the airport through this road, and they have to turn left at Garal to go towards the airport. Old AT Road leads people from Dharapur Chariali to Majali, Garal, Palasbari etc.

This is a busy road as there are a number of offices and institutions on either of its sides. The traffic on the road from Dharapur Chariali to Majali is not free from obstacles as this stretch witnesses loading and unloading of sand-laden trucks every now and then on either of its side. This practice goes on under the very nose of those at the helm of affairs to mage traffic. There is no reason that may blur those at the helm of affairs in the district administration to be in dark about this ‘unhealthy practice’ being resorted to by some truckers who are in the business of supplying sand, stone chips and other construction materials to builders and others. When it rains this stretch of the road remains sandy all over. Muck is also a common companion to the users of this road.

This is not the only problem in this stretch of the road. What adds woes to the commuters is that this stretch of the road has no streetlights to illumite the road. What is often seen is that most of the trucks used to carry sand, load and unload them at the spot are without backlights. Since such loading and unloading of sand goes on day in, day out people who paddle bicycles or other modes of vehicles at night have to meet with accidents, as often as not.  What sounds strange is: how come the suppliers use the public road meant for vehicular traffic and public use for storing sand? Should not they run their business from a spot of their own, without affecting others lives?
