Human traffickers in disguise of domestic help!

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 4: Human traffickers are active in the city. If you are thinking of hiring a domestic servant or maid, think twice before making any such move. Human traffickers are now operating in the disguise of domestic help.

The matter has come to light following the missing of a child from the Lala Basti area of rengi in the city. Son of one Soni Rai, Golu Kumar, a student of RK Memorial High School studying in class 1, went missing on December 1 after he stepped out of his home with domestic help Kishan Kumar. The matter came to light when for several hours the two didn’t turn up. After a long search in the locality, when the parents failed to find them, they approached the Noonmati police and lodged a complaint. It has been learnt that, the child was suffering from toothache and Kishan Kumar allegedly took him out on the pretext of taking him to the doctor.

Since no ransom has been demanded so far, people in the locality are suspecting it to be a case of human trafficking.

The Noonmati police have, meanwhile, registered a case under section 363 (A) of the IPC and have launched a manhunt to b the culprit.

Speaking to The Sentinel, the OC of Noonmati police station said, “We will b the culprit within two to three days. Operation is on to locate them.”

It may be mentioned that, last month too, two students of Noonmati area went missing only to be traced in a house in Azara. Both of them were also abducted by human traffickers.

It has been observed that, though while recruiting domestic help, it is advisable to conduct a thorough investigation about the servant or maid’s antecedents, many people skip the basic precautiory measures to save time or fearing they will not get one soon after. However, to avoid any disaster, people should furnish all details about the domestic help in the nearest police station.
