GUWAHATI, April 6: The Newspapers Association of India (I), Assam branch, today felicitated 15 persons who contributed to jourlism and society throughout their life from various fields, at a programme held at Rabindra Bhawan in Guwahati.
The I held this felicitation programme for the first time. The persons awarded are former vice chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury, veteran jourlist Kaksen Deka, Padmashree Jatin Goswami, veteran singer Dipen Baruah, veteran singer Nipon Goswami, poet Nilim Kumar, Editor in Chief of Pratidin Time Nitumoni Saikia, president of 'Akshya Patra' Foundation Jardha Dasa, proprietor of Bhogali traditiol food Ajit Sarmah Baruah, social activist Goutam Dhanware, ABITA project director Dr. PC Acharya, retired army officer Col. Prabin Kumar Deori, social activist Titus Bhengra, chief editor of Hamdew Adhikau Newspaper Rajib Kumar Mohotto and Indian open kickboxing champion Jingtai Wangsri. The 15 were presented with a gamosa, a shawl, a xorai, a japi and a certificate each. The guests present in the programme were tiol general secretary of I Vipin Gaur, president of Delhi branch of I Moon Johari and chairman of Assam branch of I Runu Hazarika. Gaur, in his address to the audience, said: "Our association works for the benefit of jourlists who contribute much to jourlism but don't get any benefit in return. We also work for the rights of jourlists and minimum facilities they should get." For health problems, Nirmal Kumarr Choudhury and Jatin Goswami could not attend the function.
