Integration Day today

GUWAHATI, June 9: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is going to observe its Integration Day all over the State tomorrow. The students’ body has been observing June 10 as Integration Day since 1974 when two AASU members – Gajen Ingti and Putul Saikia, both students of Ouguri High School – fell to police firing during its economic and food agitation at Burbondha in Morigaon district in support of their 21-point charter of demands. AASU president Dipangko Kumar th and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that since the incident of June 10, 1974 the AASU has been observing the day as Integration Day. The economic and food agitation has its relevance even today so as to strengthen the tiol and economic foundation in the State, they said. The day will be observed by all AASU units in their respective districts, subdivisions and regiol areas.
