Interest shown for minor irrigation schemes in Sopur

GUWAHATI, April 11: The Irrigation Department has found great potential of minor irrigation so as to eble farmers to go for cultivation of both Rabi and Kharif crops in the Dimoria area.

A team led by the Chief Engineer, Minor Irrigation, Mahendra Mohan Boro visited the Sopur area on Friday and found huge potential for new minor irrigation schemes there.  The team had other members – superintending engineer of Guwahati Project Circle Ajit Sarkar and assistant executive engineer of Sopur subdivision Ratul Goswami.

Talking to departmental officials at Sopur, the chief engineer said: “Sopur has huge potential for both Rabi and Kharif crops if some new minor irrigation projects are taken up.” He also assured the local farmers of solving the problem of water in the area through minor irrigation projects.

The team visited Hanshora Pathar, Dhipuji Pathar, Ghoramara, Janpam, Nuwabasti etc., areas and interacted with the local farmers there, including Noneswar Konwar, who had received the model farmer award.
