Investigation into APSC scam in right direction: Mahajan

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 22: Public prosecutor Bijan Mahajan has said that investigation into the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) is going in the right direction. “The police have submitted charge-sheets against the people arrested in connection with the scam, and as such they’re not getting bail in any trial courts and the high court. Even if the me of any politician comes to the fore during investigation, the police won’t step back to arrest them,” Mahajan, who is also a senior BJP leader in the State, said while addressing the press today. On the Silapathar incident, Mahajan said: “The procession was around 8,000 strong. The police, through investigation, arrested only 55 of them. Twenty-two of them have been denied bail even by the Gauhati High Court. The situation was fraught with aggravating the age-old relations between the Bengalis and the Assamese in the State. However, the police tackled the situation efficiently.” On the conviction of 14 accused in the multi-crore-rupee NC Hill scam, Mahajan said: “The Special Court is yet to pronounce the quantum of punishment. I, as the counsel of one of the accused, will take the next step after the pronouncement of the punishment.”
