GUWAHATI, Jan 2: The State Government has instituted the “Republic Day Jourlism Award” under the Information and Public Relations Department to honour persons of eminence in the field of Jourlism.
The Award aimed at honouring the excellence in the field of jourlism, will be conferred at a State-level function of the Republic Day every year in Assam. The maiden award will be conferred at the State-level function of Republic Day, 2017.
The awardee will be given an amount of Rs 1 lakh, a citation in copper plate, a japi and an angabastra.
The award is open to all persons of eminence in the field of Jourlism in the State. An association, institute or organization will not be eligible for the award. No person below the age of 50 will be considered for the award. Likewise, no deceased person will be considered for the award. Further, a person who receives the award once will not be eligible for the same honour a second time.
The State Government, through the Information and Public Relations Department, will invite nomitions within a stipulated time from the jourlists’ associations – Assam Union of Working Jourlists, Jourlists’ Union of Assam, Assam Press Correspondent Union, All Assam Small Newspaper Association, Assam Sports Jourlists’ Association, Assam Photo Jourlists’ Association, All Assam Media Employees’ Federation and Electronic Media Forum of Assam. Besides these organizations, the Information and Public Relations Department may also nomite jourlist if the situation warrants so. The Department will place the nomitions as received before the desigted award committee chaired by the Minister of Information and Public Relations Department. The approval of selection of the awardee by the Chief Minister will be fil.
