Jourlism isn't safe nowadays: Bezboruah

GUWAHATI, Jan 31: The founder Editor of The Sentinel, DN Bezboruah has said that ‘jourlism is not a safe and fearless profession nowadays as there has been influence from the government, the magement and the corporate sector’.

The veteran jourlist said this after receiving the Airam Nunisa Lifetime Achievement Award in Jourlism, 2015 instituted by Gandharv Prakashan. The award was given at a city hotel today. The other recipient of the award is veteran jourlist Tilak Hazarika, who could not turn up due to ill health. His wife Asuiya Hazarika received the award on his behalf.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, noted poet Harekrish Deka said on the recent controversy over Padma Shri awards: “There shouldn’t be any controversy over Padma Shri Awards as that hurts both the recipients and those who missed it.”

Jourlist Ajit Bhuyan, writer Thaneswar Malakar, Dilip Bora and Podumi Gogoi, besides the family members of Airam Nunisa, were also present at the function.

Meanwhile, Urukha Pojar Juk, a book written by Pradip Kumar Barman, was released at the function by Thaneswar Malakar.
