Jourlist Hiten Mahanta passes away

GUWAHATI, August 29: Senior jourlist Hiten Mahanta passed away this morning at GNRC at Six Mile in the city. He was admitted to the hospital on August 29, 2015 with multiple head injuries. According to doctors, the immediate cause of his death was cardiac

arrest.

Born in 1957, Mahanta completed his education in Guwahati. After completing PU form Cotton College, he had his graduation from Pragjyotish College and Master’s degree in Political Science from Gauhati University. He started his career his jourlism in 1984 through Jakranti. Later he shifted to Ajir Asom in 1987 and filly joined tun Dainik in 1989. He was the president of the tun Dainik Employees’ Union and associated with the Jourlists’ Union of Assam, Jourlists’ Action Committee, Jourlists’ Forum Assam and Guwahati Press Club. He was also the founder president of All Assam Media Employees’ Federation.

Mahanta left behind his wife Mashri Mahanta, two sons Niharanjan and Chinmoy and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

Soon after his death, his body was taken to his home where various social organizations paid their last respects to him. Before taking his mortal remains to vagraha crematorium, he was taken to Guwahati Press Club where jourlists and other well-wishers paid their last respects to him.

The JFA and Dispur Press Club jointly condoled the death of Mahanta.

The AIUDF also condoled the death of the jourlist today.
