GUWAHATI, March 19: Assam after Independence, the first post-independence contemporary history of Assam, written by senior jourlist Mril Talukdar, was released on Sunday in a programme held at Assam State Museum auditorium here.
A panel discussion on this period was also held on the occasion, which was moderated by senior jourlist and editor of Amar Asom, Prasanta Rajguru. Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Hitendra th Goswami, Krish Kanta Handique State Open University Vice Chancellor Hitesh Deka and the Editor of Asomiya Pratidin, Nitya Bora.
ALA speaker Goswami said that the Assam After Independence is a beautiful book, which is can be termed as an essential document to know Assam.
The book is published by the nda Talukdar Foundation.
This project for the first time has systemically documented the post-Independence period, which has seen many upheavals from the great earthquake to the rise and fall of the ULFA. The book has 12 chapters, each chapter dwelling with one major event of the period like Assam Agitation, resurgence of the Bodos, besides the intricate and never published chronicles of politicking in Assam from 1945-to 2005.
