Jourlists assaulted by miscreants

DIMORIA, Nov 26: Unidentified miscreants on Thursday afternoon attacked a group of jourlists in 9th Mile area of Jorabat, when they were heading to collect news of an illegal marijua godown.

The jourlists who sustained injuries in the attack are Pratap Das, Jayanta Gayari, Sylvester Majaw and Albinus Kharbihjhiew. It has been learnt that Sylvester Majaw was badly injured in the attack. Soon after inflicting injuries, the group of miscreants fled from the scene.

Meanwhile, the jourlists have lodged a complaint with the Khapara police of Meghalaya. Police have assured an speedy investigation into the matter.

It may be mentioned that, in the last few years, illegal activities have significantly increased in the Assam-Meghalaya border. However, the police have not been able to take any concrete step to curb the unlawful activities.

Several organizations and associations have extended their solidarity to the jourlists and have urged the police to arrest the miscreants at the earliest as they came out to condemn the incident.
