Jugdal murder: Bora demands CBI inquiry

 By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 23: Dispur MLA Atul Bora has moved the State Government with his long-standing demand for CBI inquiry into the gruesome Jogdal murder in December 2009.  It was on December 12, 2009 six people –   Harakanta Doley, his wife Swap Doley, their three children and a nephew – were beheaded at Jugdal in the Dimoria area on the outskirts of Guwahati.

In a memorandum submitted to State Chief Secretary on Thursday, Bora said: “The murderers, with definite ulterior motives, threw the bodies into ‘Heart City’ campus trying to implicate well-known surgeon Dr Dhanirarn Baruah. The investigations following the crime have been patchy due to political intervention by the former government and have failed to solve the mystery behind the murders. Even after more than six years, no murderer has been booked and no real attempt has been made to bring the perpetrators to trial. I must point out that from all indications, the people of my constituency believe that former minister Akon Bora was involved in the massacre and former Congress Government had all along tried to dislodge the investigation process to safeguard his interest despite open allegations in the media about his involvement… The Assam Government should request the Central Government to immediately order an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to unveil the truth behind the massacre and also to bring all the culprits to book.”
