Jyoti Chitrabon pays gratitude to Bhupenda

By our staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Jyoti Chitrabon Film Studio chairman Pabitra Margherta has said that the Studio owes Dr. Bhupen Hazarika a debt of gratitude for all that the balladeer did for culture and films in Assam. He also expressed a similar gratitude to all those who have made Guwahati Intertiol Film Festival (GIFF) a success.

Talking to newsmen in Guwahati on Sunday, Margherita thanked all for supporting the first GIFF that concluded recently.

The press meet started with remembering Dr. Hazarika on his sixth death anniversary. Marghetia said: “Today we’re here standing in Jyoti Chitrabon Studio only because of Bhupenda. In 1958, Bhupenda at Shillong said ‘it’s pity about having a film studio in Assam, not for luxury. Not even not for waste of money like in Mumbai and Kolkata. The studio should be like our school, college, hospital and library. It shouldn’t be about profit and loss.’ All those advice is still with us as inspirations from him.”

Margherita added: “I would also like to thank the media for their hard work supporting in the six-day film festival. I also thanked all viewers and volunteers.”

Festival Director Monita Borgohain felicitated the best viewer couple – Mihir Baruah and his wife – and the first GIFF poster designer Durlav Bhatarcharjya. All volunteers were given certificates.
