GUWAHATI, July 31: The Kalita Jagosthi Sanmilan (KJS), along with the Kalita Jagosthi Joutha Sangram Samittee (KJJSM), is going to conduct a sit-in strike in front of the State Assembly on August 11 for the fulfillment of their demand of declaring the Kalita community as Scheduled Tribe (ST).
KJS president Soneshwar Kalita said this in a press conference in Guwahati Press Club said: “We went to Delhi and met political leaders like the tiol secretary of the BJP, Ramen Deka, cabinet minister Juel Oram and minister Kiren Rijiju, registrar C Chandramouli. They assured us of quick action after confirmation from the state government. Chandramouli said that there would be some amendment in the ST declaration, and after the no-objection nod  from the state government, they would take initiative. We discussed with them and demanded the declaration of all the indigenous tribes of the state as ST and include Kalita community in Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India." KJS secretary Ramen Kakoty said: “As the state government has not taken any initiative in this regard and neglects us, we are going to stage a three hour sit-in strike in front of the State Assembly on August 11. If not responded, we will go ofr agitation in future."
