Kamrup observes Gandhi Jayanti

MIRZA/DIMORIA, Oct 2: The 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was observed in Palasbari LAC, West Guwahati  LAC and in the Dimoria area in a befitting way today.  

There were functions to mark the day at Palasbari, Moniyeri Tiniali, Mirza, Borduar etc. places. The AAU celebrated the day at Moniyeri Tiniali under its girl students' wing -- Tulip. There were also celebrations at Palasbari police station, Mirza 30-bed Hospital and Dakshin Kamrup College. In West Guwahati LAC, an NGO - Ujjibon -- observed the day and opened a public toilet at Rani. A procession was taken out at Borduar katha with a man dressed as Gandhiji.

There were celebrations in the Dimoria area also.  The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi observed the day at Tetelia through cleanliness drives and all-religion prayers etc., in the area. Nidhi chairman Karukanta Baruah, senior citizen Honeswar Konwar, Gitima Bhuyan, and others were present.
