Kamrup transport surpasses tax target

GUWAHATI, Dec 19: The Kamrup district transport department has surpassed the target in just eight-month-and-a-half set by it in the collection of tax this fincial year. The department has already achieved the target of Rs 12.21 crore by collecting Rs 12,243,8767 by December 15. A period of over three months of this fiscal is still to go.

Kamrup district transport officer Gautam Das said that the department has made it sure that no vehicle plies on the road without paying taxes. He has also laid stress on road safety issues. “Vehicle owners have been asked through advertisement to pay their taxes,” he said.

Das said that the collected would have been more had there been no demonetization. He further said that such a huge collection was possible due to greater coordition between motor vehicle inspectors, enforcement inspectors, other officers and executives of the department relating to tax evasion, computerized official works and awareness among vehicle owners and motor unions.
